About the Tank:
Israeli IDF MBT Magach 6B GAL BATASH
The Magach 6B GAL BATASH is a significant main battle tank in the inventory of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). Developed from the American M48 and the M60 Patton design, the Magach series has undergone numerous modifications and upgrades to adapt to the evolving battlefield requirements.
Historical Overview
The Magach 6B GAL is an advanced variant introduced in the 1970s. It features an extensive array of enhancements compared to its predecessors, including improved armour protection, upgraded fire control systems, and a more powerful engine. Other variants were the Magach 6 B (with engine AVDS-1790-2C RISE), Magach 6 B Gal (version with the fire control system Gal) or Magach 6 B Gal Batach (version with SKO Gal, new armor and a different shape of the tower). Cars of this type took part mainly in the operation in Lebanon in 1982.
Design Features
The Magach 6B GAL BATASH is distinguished by its unique composite armour, which offers enhanced defence against modern anti-tank weaponry. The weaponry of the Magach includes a 105mm M68 gun, capable of firing a variety of munitions, including high-explosive and armour-piercing rounds, such as two 7.62mm and 12.7mm Browning machine guns and a 60mm light mortar. This versatility allows for engagement with a broad spectrum of targets.
Additionally, the tank is equipped with a laser rangefinder and a ballistic computer, allowing for improved accuracy and efficiency during combat scenarios. The layout of the tank prioritises crew safety, with a well-designed turret that provides adequate cover while maintaining operational functionality.
